South Indian Filter Coffee
This one is for all the coffee lovers out there! This recipe will surely make your morning and evening coffee cravings super easy to satisfy!
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp coffee powder (I used Narasus Udhayam coffee)
- ½ cup water
- 1½ cup milk (I used whole milk)
- 2 tsp suagr (adjust as needed)
- ¼ tsp instant coffee (optional)
Instructions
- Heat water in a pot until boiling.
- Add a small piece of fabric (2 inch x 2 inch) to the top compartment of the coffee filter to prevent any coffee powder from getting into the decoction. The fabric should take up the entirety of the base of the top compartment.
- Next, add 3 tbsp coffee powder to the filter.
- Then, gradually pour the hot water into the top compartment of the filter. Place the lid on the filter and let it sit for a few minutes.
- The decoction will collect in the bottom compartment of the filter.
- Now, add milk to a pan and let it boil.
- Once boiled, filter the milk using a strainer and add sugar as needed.
- Add the decoction as needed (add more if you prefer a stronger coffee).
- Use a milk frother to make the coffee frothy.
- Pour coffee into warm mugs. Sprinkle a pinch of instant coffee on top of the coffee for additional flavor. Serve hot.
Notes
Tips and Additional Notes:
- You can adjust the coffee decoction and milk proportions as needed.
- You can use 2% milk (for thicker coffee) or add a little bit of water to the milk for a lighter coffee.
- To make the coffee creamy, add heavy whipping cream.
- Coffee powder with 15-20% chicory works well for this coffee. I prefer to use Narasus Udhayam or Cothas
