A hearty vegetable like brussels sprouts can be cooked and seasoned in so many ways. This pirattal is made by them in a spicy coconut paste along with onions and tomatoes.

Ingredients
- 10 brussels sprouts
- ¾ cup onion (chopped)
- ½ cup tomato (chopped)
- 5 garlic cloves
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp fennel seeds
- 3 tbsp oil
- salt to taste
For grinding:
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- 5 red chilies (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp fennel seeds
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Wash the brussels sprouts and cut them into quarters.
- Grind the ingredients under "For grinding" into a smooth paste. Add very little water, if needed. Set aside.
- Add oil to a frying pan. Once hot, add fennel seeds, onions and garlic.
- Saute for 1 minute. The raw smell should fade.
- Add turmeric powder, tomatoes and salt. Saute until soft.
- Then, add the brussels sprouts and saute for 1 minute. Cover with a lid and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the ground masala paste to the pan and mix to evenly spread.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame. Be careful not to overcook the brussels sprouts.
- Serve hot with rice.
