Avarakkai poriyal (broad beans stir-fry) is a quick and easy side dish made using urad dhal, shredded coconut, and of course, plenty of broad beans. This Chettinad dish is traditionally served with rice and sambar. Enjoy!

Add mustard seeds, red chilies and urad dhal to oil 
Add and saute onions and curry leaves 
Add chopped broad beans 
Saute and cook on low flame 
Add shredded coconut and mix well 
Avarakkai Poriyal
Avarakkai poriyal (broad beans stir-fry) is a quick and easy side dish made using urad dhal, shredded coconut, and of course, plenty of broad beans. This Chettinad dish is traditionally served with rice and sambar. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 5 cups broad beans (chopped)
- ½ cup onion (chopped)
- ¼ cup shredded coconut
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dhal
- 3 red chilies (split in half)
- 6 curry leaves
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash and chop broad beans. Set aside when done.
- Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds, urad dhal and red chilies.
- Once mustard seeds crackle, add chopped onions and curry leaves. Saute for 30 seconds.
- Next, add chopped broad beans and saute for 30 seconds. Add salt to taste.
- Cover with a lid and cook on low flame for 2 minutes.
- Add grated coconut and mix well.
- Remove from flame and serve hot as a side dish with rice and sambar.
