Beans Thuvattal is a very popular Chettinad side dish that is served with rice and curry. Cooked with coconut and toor dhal, this is one of the quickest side dishes that you can make for your busy family.

Ingredients
4cupsgreen beans(chopped)
½cuptoor dhal
1½cupswater
⅛tspturmeric powder
1tspoil(for cooking toor dhal)
½tspmustard seeds
1tspurad dhal
3dry red chilies
2sprigscurry leaves
2tbspshredded coconut
3tbsp oil
salt to taste
Instructions
Add washed toor dhal to a pressure cooker.
Then, add water, turmeric powder, and 1 tsp oil to the cooker.
Cook for 1 whistle and set aside. The toor dhal should be cooked until al dente, as shown in the picture above.
Let the pressure release naturally. Once released, open the pressure cooker and strain the excess water. Separate the cooked dhal from the water. (You can use the water to make sambar or rasam).
Add oil to a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds, urad dhal and dry red chilies.
Once mustard seeds start to crackle, add chopped beans.
Saute for 1 minute and then add curry leaves and salt.
Mix well and cover with a lid. Cook for 5 minutes.
Once beans are cooked, add toor dhal. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
