Made with bottle gourd, dhal and spices, this kootu pairs best with white rice. A kootu like this one is sure to make your lunch more tastier!

Ingredients
- 2 cups bottle gourd (sorakkai) (cut into small cubes)
- ½ cup moong dhal
- 1 tbsp channa dhal
- ¼ cup onion (chopped)
- 3 green chilies (you can use chili powder as a replacement)
- 1½ – 2 cups water
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp grated coconut (optional)
- 1 tsp oil
- salt to taste
For tempering:
- 1 tbsp oil/ghee
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp urad dhal
- 6 curry leaves
Instructions
- Wash moong dhal and channa dhal. Soak with 1 cup of water for 10 minutes in a pressure cooker.
- Add cut sorakkai, onion, green chilies, turmeric powder, oil, water and salt.
- Cook for 1 whistle. Release the pressure and add grated coconut, if using. Mix gently.
- Add the ingredients under "For tempering" to a small pan. Once the mustard seeds crackle, remove from heat and pour over the kootu.
- Serve hot with rice.
