Made from cut plantain and a variety of spices, Ennai Vazhakkai is a great side dish to have with rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 vazhakkai (green plantain)
  • 1 tbsp masala powder (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • salt

Instructions

  • Cut vazhakkai and add it to water to prevent browning.
  • Add oil to a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds and garlic.
  • Once mustard seeds crackle, strain the vazhakkai and add to the pan.
  • Add turmeric powder, masala powder and salt. Mix well.
  • Dry roast vazhakkai until well cooked.
  • Add curry leaves and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Serve hot with yogurt rice or as a side dish.
