Cereal Mixture

This snack is the perfect combination of sweet and savory along with a crunch. It's addictive ingredients are sure to keep you snacking.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Corn Flakes
  • 2 cups Cheerios
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • ½ cup halved cashews
  • ½ cup almonds
  • ½ cup golden raisins
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ¼ cup dry grated coconut
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 6 green chilies (slit down the middle)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 15 curry leaves
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • tsp asafoetida (also known as hing or perungayam)
  • ¼ tsp ajwain
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds (ground into a course powder)
  • 2 tbsp rock sugar (optional) (also known as kalkandu)
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  • In a heavy bottom pan, add oil.
  • When hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ajwain and asafoetida.
  • Once mustard seeds crackle, add green chilies and curry leaves.
  • Add almonds and peanuts. On low flame, roast nuts and green chilies until they are not raw.
  • Add cashews and raisins and roast in low flame. Be careful not to burn them.
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander seeds and red chili powder.
  • Mix all cereals in a small bowl and add to the pan.
  • Mix cereal and nuts well under low flame. Add salt to taste.
  • Cool to room temperature and add rock sugar if using.
  • Serve as a snack and store in an air container for long shelf life.
