Thalicha Idli with Onions

This spin on leftover idli, is for the onion lovers out there. Soft idlis and sauteed onions make a great pair for breakfast on a busy day.

Ingredients

  • 15 idlis
  • 1 cup onion (chopped)
  • 4 green chilies
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dhal
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 cups water
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Add water and 1 tsp of salt to a bowl.
  • Immerse one idli at a time into the bowl. Squeeze out the excess water and crumble the idli. Repeat with all idlis and set aside in a bowl.
  • Add oil to a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds and urad dhal.
  • Once the mustard seeds crackle, add chopped onions, green chilies and curry leaves.
  • Then add idli crumbs and salt to taste and gently mix.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame.
  • Serve hot with sambar and chutney.
