Spicy Shrimp Masala

This Spicy Shrimp Masala is a must try. Sauteed in a dry roasted powder, onions and aromatic spices, this dish is one you won't be able to resist.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb deveined shrimp
  • 2 cups onion (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 15 curry leaves
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp fennel
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon/lime juice
  • salt to taste

For dry roast and grind:

  • 1 tbsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tbsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 5 dry red chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 green cardamom

Instructions

  • Dry roast the ingredients under dry roast and grind. Grind into a fine powder and set aside.
  • Add oil to a pan. Once hot, add fennel seeds and black pepper.
  • When fennel seeds start to sizzle, add chopped onions and saute for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell fades.
  • Then, add turmeric powder and the freshly ground masala powder. Mix well.
  • Saute and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Add curry leaves and mix.
  • Next, add shrimp and saute for 2 minutes. Add salt to taste.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes. Once the shrimp is cooked, it will curl. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp.
  • Once cooked, remove from heat. Add lemon juice and mix.
  • Serve hot with rice, idli, dosa or roti.
